Fanny Fern: "Hints to Young Wives" and "A Law More Nice Than Just"

Fanny Fern is a very amusing writer and has really good humor.  I really liked her two short stories: "Hints to Young Wives" and "A Law More Nice Than Just." These are both really funny and she gives good advice, that was radical for her time, to women who may only do the things they are expected to do.  In "Hints to Young Wives", when Fern talks about her neighbor,  I imagined the classic 1950s woman who took care of the house, greeted her husband when he got home, and had dinner ready on the table.  Fern makes it clear that you should not be a servant to your husband, you should keep him guessing, and not smother him.  If your man knows that he has you completely he will probably cheat on you.  In "A Law More Nice Than Just" I thought it was hilarious that it used to be against the law for women to wear pants.  Whoever made that law would have a cow now.  Women nowadays wear pants, super short shorts, and other really "risque" articles of clothing.  I love how the narrator gets her husband to go along with her wearing pants.  This idea of women wearing pants and cross-dressing is a very popular story line  and is always amusing.  Fern makes a humorous story about defying the norms of society and doing as you please.  Overall, both of these stories were really entertaining to read.
