1. Why did Mr. Spring Fragrance say that Chinese women love their husbands after they marry when Mrs. Spring Fragrance fell in love with his picture before they met?
2. Have any of you ever overheard a conversation wrong? and if so did you view that person different or treat them differently until you found out that what you heard was wrong?
In response to question 1, perhaps Mrs. Spring Fragrance never told her husband when, exactly, she fell in love with him? That could tie back to Dana's post, "Mr Spring Fragrance," and supply a possible answer for the man's seeming insecurity. He knows that he fell in love with Jade "before ever he had seen her" (512), but maybe she never told him, "Yes, it was the same for me!" Maybe he doesn't know just how long she has loved him. If he did, perhaps he wouldn't be as quick to see her love as easily lost.
ReplyDeleteI think its interesting that you point out that Mrs. Fragrance "fell in love with his picture," not she "fell in love with him." So did she really love him before they got married or does she fit in the category of Chinese women who love their husbands after they get married.
