"The Yellow Wallpaper" vs. "The Awakening"

The leading ladies in "The Yellow Wallpaper" and "The Awakening" are both strong woman who want to make their own decisions and do what they want.  They both seem to fail as mothers.  The crazy lady has not seen her child since it was born and the reader isn't even really sure if the she really had a child or if it is still alive.  Edna's husband says she is not a mother-woman and she is not over loving of her children.  Edna's children do not come running to her when they get hurt.  The crazy lady goes crazier because she is told to rest and not to "scribble".  Edna we can see is on the verge of cheating on her husband with Robert.  Both ladies have some what oppressive husbands but the husbands are that way out of love and I also think that is how they think they are suppose to treat women.  Do you all think that these women and their husbands are accurate representations of couples living in their time period?
