3/9 Questions

1. The reviewer from  the St Louis Post-Dispatch wrote "'The Awakening' is not for the young person; not because the young person would be harmed by reading it, but because the young person wouldn't understand it... It is for seasoned souls who have lived."
a) Do you agree with this statement?
b) What do you think is this person's definition of young? Also, how old was Chopin when she wrote this novel?

2. Many readers have negative feelings about Edna. Do you think that was Chopin's intention?

3. We may have brought this up in class but do you think Edna intended to take her own life?

Also I wanted to point out a question by the reviewer from New York Times Saturday Review. He/she asks "Would it have been better had Mrs. Kate Chopin's heroine slept on forever and never had an awakening?" That's an interesting question in itself which leads to the question of where would Edna be if she had she never awakened?
