Do you think Shukumar makes his last confession to Shoba because he feels hurt that she wants to live elsewhere (that the move was partially retaliation)?
What about the couple's misfortune with birth do you think made them so distant to each other (rather than making them come closer)?
Although it can easily be seen as such, I do not think Shukumar meant for his confession to be spiteful or in any way vengeful. I think that after Shoba has told him that she is leaving him, he feels as though he has nothing to hide anymore. At this point in the story he is as low as he has ever been, he feels completely hopeless, and very exposed. Maybe in some odd way he thinks that by telling her something so personal that he can begin to refuel a connection to her?
